Robin Childers Facture MFA Painting Thesis Candidate
The atmosphere of the manufacturing that includes the elements of individuals and machines working together in that environment is my focus. Appropriated images joined with my own imagery in conjunction with sounds and found objects, create a narrative of layered visual language built from personal memories. The construction of visuals and sounds reflects production of machines and workers as part of the industrial building. Scale and treatment of the space reflects memories of the surroundings of manufacturing and how the regional culture reacts to this process. The impetus of my work is the oral history, the buildings, the machines and personal experience of a shifting industry in North and South Carolina. The stories from family members about life as a woman working manufacturing, and being involved with industry as a textile designer have inspired the installation.
FACTURE is dedicated to the textile workers of North and South Carolina.
